Join No Readgrets Book Club to slow down and celebrate the art of translation, and the incredible work translators do to carry stories across languages and cultures.
There will be a discussion on The Memory Bookshop by Song Yu-jeong, translated by Shanna Tan, who will be joining in for a chat and book signing after the discussion!

From healing fiction and feminist retellings to literary prize winners and cult favourites, Korean literature has captivated readers around the world.
Join Singaporean literary translators Shanna Tan (Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop) and Gene Png (The Midnight Shift) for a conversation on bringing Korean stories into English. Together with moderator Maisie Cheong, they will discuss the growing global appetite for Korean literature, and the joys and challenges of translating voice and cultural nuances.
Drawing on their work translating bestselling and award-winning Korean authors, they will share insights into the craft, business and future of Korean literature in translation.

Heart Lamp Book Club with Wormhole

In the spirit of Women in Translation Month, Wormhole is opening up their book club discussion to the public for the first time! Heart Lamp is a collection of 12 short stories on the lives of Muslim women in southern India, touching on gender power dynamics, faith and religion, and the societal forces behind patriarchy.
It is also the first short-story collection to win the International Booker Prize (and the first winner originally written in Kannada) — a compassionate yet funny series of works from Banu Mushtaq, and deftly translated by Deepa Bhasthi who faithfully retains the language’s tradition of oral storytelling.
