The theme of this year’s SLP, Mata Hati, pays tribute to the late literary pioneer Suratman Markasan. Mata Hati (what the heart sees) refers to an expansive notion of sight that is led by our senses. Guided by the role of the writer as a seeker of truth and who bears witness – a role advocated by Pak Suratman – we hope that writers will be inspired and guided by his humanistic approach towards literature.
