结合男女性、矛盾者、人类宇宙、细菌、在地异域不同视角的诗集，促成读者在白天喧嚣中寻找夜间安静与自在的诗集。书为新加坡文学奖和金笔奖诗人周德成的第二部诗集，集结了诗人近些年创作的诗歌约100首，分为《如同文明与爱情的进化》《火把思念轻轻煮沸》《开始与结束的光合作用》《用整个白天来使黑夜静下来》四辑。书中，诗人既关注身边的细节，也关注人的精神世界；以往事回望，亦有对当下生活现场的把握，诗歌有许多打破了固有的语言习惯、独造之处。
The Diminishing Daylight Makes the Night Fall into Silence
Combining male and female, human and universe, micro and macro perspectives, this poetry collection evokes a sense of poetic tranquility amidst daytime hustle and bustle. It brings together approximately 100 poems written by the poet in recent years. In them, the poet pays attention to everyday details and humanity, and reflects on the past while capturing the essence of the current. Many of the poems break free from conventional language habits, attempting to inovate a new form of poetic language.

周德成，2009金笔奖和204新加坡文学奖得主（获奖诗集《你和我的故事》）。目前为英国剑桥大学博士生和南大教育学院的兼职讲师。写诗、散文、小说，创作书法绘画，兼及艺术和文学翻译。最近除了出版新诗集《用整个白天使黑夜安静》（获选入2022早报书单）， 他也参与音乐化自己和其他诗人诗歌的项目（与创作歌手白欣平合作），并改编微电影《第四个男人》和经典作品《红楼梦》成现代小说文本，同时翻译孟加拉在新客工诗歌。
Born in Singapore, Chow Teck Seng won the 2009 Golden Pen Award and 2014 Singapore Literature Award with his poetry collection The Story of You & Me. A PhD candidate at Cambridge University and part-time lecturer at NIE, he writes poetry, translates and worked on art and calligraphy. Besides musicalizing his poetry, he published a new poetry collection The Daylight Makes the Night Fall into Silence (Lianhe Zaobao booklist 2022) and adapted a microfilm The Fourth Man as well as the Chinese classic Dream of the Red Chamber into fiction works.

He (art) and 心+音：It’s making art by recreating oneself, and attitude. It is the voice of his heart- an observing and distanced perspective.

What does your writing process look like? Do you type or write? Are there multiple drafts, long pauses, or sudden bursts of activity?

Usually sudden bursts of activity, then leave the drafts for months or years, then rewrite or amalgamate various drafts into one, or split one into a few works.. Write on paper, type or record my voice into handphone or laptop..

Like a nomad setting up camps here and there-- in the living room, on the desk in a room, or by the small coffee table, always with a cup of coffee nearby. Sometimes it's on the bus or MRT rides.

“Rhyming with the daily?” --It seems I’m writing poetry based on the every little things, living in SG and beyond, like doing laundry, taking a plane and queuing up in coffeeshops, but it’s also an attempt to redefine poetics by reinventing traditions and conventions. It’s about both male and female perspectives, the less privileged , mankind and the universe, and even evolution, relativity and AI !

Could you share a pivotal moment as you were writing this work?
在整理这本诗集时定稿时，出版社说他们不得不删掉几首诗，
While putting together the collection, the publisher said that they had to take out a couple of poems, of which one was the original title of the manuscript. The title was “Mankind, the bacteria on Planet Earth”, a poem written before covid.
