Be part of Translation Day Singapore 2026!
Are you passionate about languages? Do you have a fun, creative idea that highlights how we move between languages and cultures? Have you ever wanted to conduct your own programme or performance that spotlights translation in an innovative, inclusive, and immersive manner?
We’re inviting the public — artists, educators, language lovers, or anyone with a great idea — to propose unique ideas for Translation Day Singapore 2026, happening on 26 - 27 September. We’re looking for interactive programmes that explore translation, language, and multilingual expression not just as practical tools, but also as forms of connection, accessibility, and storytelling.
Selected proposals will receive an honorarium and the support of the Singapore Book Council team to bring your programme to life during Translation Day Singapore.
This is your chance to shape how people experience translation, not just as a technical skill, but as a creative, playful, and deeply human act.
What We’re Looking For
We’re open to a wide range of ideas, as long as your programme:
- Explores or celebrates translation, language, or multilingualism
- Is designed for general audiences
- Is interactive, participatory, or performance-based
- Engages with translation across one or more artistic forms or modes of expression
- Brings together more than two languages, preferably including two of Singapore’s official languages alongside other languages or dialects
What You’ll Receive
- An honorarium of SGD500 to cover facilitator fees, materials, and basic programme costs
- Logistical and publicity support from SBC
- A platform to share your work with a diverse and curious audience
Who Can Apply
Anyone! You don’t need to be a professional curator or artist. We welcome:
- First-time programmers
- Collectives and informal groups
- Multilingual individuals and communities
- Anyone excited about translation and language

About Translation Day Singapore 2025
TDSG is anchored by two main components:
- 27 September - Symposium
The Translation Symposium comprises insightful panels focusing on professional development and discourse in the field of literary translation. It offers opportunities for practicing translators to exchange knowledge, learn from international experts, and stay informed on current trends and best practices. - 28 September - Workshops & Public Programmes
Our workshops invite practitioners to elevate their craft through hands-on sessions with renowned translators, while our public programmes invite language enthusiasts and the general public to engage with language and culture meaningfully through interactive activities, encouraging a deeper appreciation for translation and Singapore’s multilingualism.
The objectives of Translation Day Singapore Translation are to:
- Recognise and highlight the diversity of languages used in Singapore, while promoting deeper appreciation for Singapore’s multicultural fabric.
- To showcase how literary translation can be a creative tool for fostering understanding between different linguistic and cultural communities.
- To strengthen the professional development of literary translators in enhancing their skills and gaining more industry knowledge.
