《永恒的山村》是新加坡作者方然带有自传色彩的中篇小说。书中主人翁凌天星，走过童年、青年、老年，见证了新加坡不同时代的历史事件、社会氛围、 人情世故。从一个学生、工人、文学爱好者，到成为文学杂志的主编，他坚持不懈，用了他几乎所有的微薄力量去挣扎求存，竭力追求一个遥远的文学梦想。小说也记录了作者童年生活过的一座无名山村，山村的淳朴，在历史发展的洪流中注定要消失，就如主人公一样，他对社会的关注及对文学的热爱，在生活的重压下逐渐磨蚀。

The Eternal Village  

The Eternal Village is a semi-autobiographical novel. Ling Tianxing, the protagonist, has gone through childhood, youth and old age, and witnessed the various historical events, social and human conditions in different eras in Singapore history. From being a student, a blue-collar worker, a private home tutor, a literature enthusiast, to becoming editor of a literary magazine, he has persevered and used almost all his meager strength to struggle for survival and to pursue a distant literary dream. The novel also records an unnamed village where the author lived in his childhood. The simple village life is destined to disappear in the torrent of modern development, just like the protagonist, whose concern for society and love of literature gradually wear out under the weight of life.
