My Dissociative Memories

The son of a second-generation leftist, whose father disappeared when he was three, begins his quest to find his father and trace the history of Singapore's leftist movement. This story reveals how, in Singapore during the 1950s and 60s, young people, influenced by communism and even identifying themselves as descendants of Lu Xun, struggled to break free from colonial rule, clashing with those in power and ultimately becoming victims of the era.

After the tumultuous times subsided, two generations of these pioneers and their families, including the second-generation leftist protagonist, deliberately forgot their past to protect themselves from trauma, resulting in a breakdown of their personal consciousness and a loss of self-identity.

This condition is medically known as dissociative amnesia.
