Lemon

Lemon collects 10 short stories by Phoon Jing Ying, including "Lemon", which won Second Prize in the 2021 Golden Point Award, and "The Man Who Absorbs Light", which won the Gold Award at the 2021 Xinhua Youth Literary Micro-fiction competition. The characters in these stories are people who have bound themselves and long to break free - those who have stumbled in their careers, those who have lost their life partners and must face the world alone, those who carry guilt and resentment toward their mothers, and those who turn their gaze inward to examine and lay bare their own souls. Yet perhaps, in the days when nothing seems clear, what truly captivates us is not the right answer - but the way these characters, through it all, continue to slowly savour the bittersweet, fragrant taste of a lemon.
