Disrupting the Markets: Publishing Translated Literature

In the UK, translated literature is a growing market, however, European Literatures remain the most translated in the industry. So how can publishers, writers and translators from Southeast Asia disrupt the market?

Gain insight and learn from the Publisher and Managing Director of Tilted Axis Press herself on how to dominate the market in publishing translated literature. 

Talk Outline:

Emerging writers and translators of Southeast Asian languages will gain insight into the process and challenges of publishing. Translators will also learn more about rights and resources that can help navigate the industry.  

This talk is best for emerging translators and writers interested in getting their works translated into English.

REGISTRATION DETAILS

Minimum – Maximum Number of Participants: 1 – 30 pax

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation, two weeks before the workshop date.

 

Cancellation:

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to 5 working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Those who did not turn up at the workshop will not receive a refund.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation and withdrawal policy and accept the terms contained therein.

Kristen Vida Alfaro is Publisher and Managing Director of Tilted Axis Press. A writer and organiser, she led labour and anti-racist organising at the Barbican. This work informs how she will lead the next stage of the press, which will see TAP develop interdisciplinary projects alongside publishing contemporary and historical literature in translation.

In a former life, Kristen pursued (and left) a doctorate in Cinema Studies at New York University. Her writing and interviews have appeared in Logic, The Moving Image, Triple Canopy and n+1. She is based in London.
