Defining Digital Storytelling (by Denise Atchley, U.S.A)
27 August 2007, 7 pm – 8 pm
Playden @ The Arts House (1, Old Parliament Lane)
Create your personal digital story with digital storytelling! Learn how to make facts come alive in your journey of personal expression. Every individual, every home, every community, and, for that matter, every corporate entity has a story to tell; except that:
• these stories lie buried, incoherent or mute, in photos, albums, documents, presentations, video-clips and speeches;
• everyone may not have the skills or the talent to “tell” a gripping story; and
• everyone hasn’t had the benefit of training or even the experience to write a script and then produce the material into a succinct yet captivating story.
Denise Atchley, the Co-Founder and Director of The Digital Storytelling Festival™ in the U.S., will deliver an intriguging talk on this new and exciting concept. She will discuss the roots of the movement using examples of digital storytelling works and explain the various uses of digital storytelling for amongst others, corporate, education and personal development.

It has been six years since Eric’s last solo exhibition at The Substation. The House of Memory
- Ho Tzu Nyen
- 14 and 15 September 2007, 8 pm
- The Substation Theatre
45 Armenian Street
Singapore 179936
http://www.substation.org/ - 6337 7535
- Admission is free
Drawing upon the power of several childhood images seared into eye his mind, Ho Tzu Nyen attempts to revisit his past. But this voyage brings us to unexpected places and threads of ideas, ranging from mnemotechnics, or the ‘art of memory’ said to be invented by the Greek poet, Simonides of Ceos, the “honey-tongued” lyricist who was the first to demand payment for his poetry, to the Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky’s obsession with burning houses.
Ho Tzu Nyen, an Associate Artist of The Substation, produces art and film projects. In 2006, Tzu Nyen presented The Guernica Project at ARCO, Madrid and The Bohemian Rhapsody Project at the Singapore Biennale, and was commissioned to produce a panoramic film on the pre-colonial history of Singapore, for the National Museum of Singapore.
In the Asylum
- A sound installation by Zulkifle Mahmood

Saturday: 12 – 7 pm - The Asylum
22 Ann Siang Road
Singapore 069702 - 6324 2289
Phone: 6324 2289
‘In The Asylum’ is a sound installation that investigates and explores auditory spatial awareness and its relationship to aural architecture through sound and vibration. We are so trained to imagine by using visuals that sometimes we forget that we can use sound to imagine. We experience space not only by seeing but also by listening. Auditory spatial awareness is a prism that reveals a culture’s attitudes toward hearing and space. Some listeners can learn to “see” objects with their ears, but even without training, we can all hear spatial geometry such as an open door or low ceiling.

The color white is not a color
I like a color that is not a color
I can fill it up, dirty it, mess it up
It is a white paper where nothing has been written on it
It is a sleep without dreams
It is already the mourning of innocence
