HERE WE GO!

The NBDCS literary bandwagon hit the road again as we kicked off our first program of the year with a Course in Basic Editing from 18-21 March. Lots more are to follow and we hope you keep signing up and we keep churning them out to keep the literary momentum going in Singapore! DISCOVER THE POWER OF STORYTELLING
The Storyteller’s Course is designed for those who work with children and youth. It is great for expanding their knowledge and skills in storytelling. However, it would also be useful for anyone who would like to take his or her first steps in storytelling.A team of professionals, specially selected for their expertise and experience, will conduct this 34-hour course. The course will include both theory and practical hands-on experiences with a focus on Asian tales. Participants will be required to tell a story to their course mates.

TAMIL STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
Too often we’ve heard fairy tales and stories in English and told quite a few ourselves in the same language. How many of us really know how to tell a good story in Tamil! At the National Book Development Council of Singapore, we are committed to spreading the art of storytelling in our Asian languages. Storytelling is a craft and a great way to preserve our culture, revitalize literature and educate our children. We are thus proud to present a three-day Tamil Storytelling Workshop by storytelling expert from India, Jeeva Raghunath.

READERS AND WRITERS, A HANDS-ON WORKSHOP
2 - 3 June 2003 & 8 - 9 September 2003

The new English Language syllabus requires students to use language for activities like social interaction, literary expression and information gathering and disseminating. In order to be able to carry out all these tasks effectively, students have to read and write extensively. In view of the above, this workshop aims to disseminate techniques on reading and writing to teachers.

for Primary School teachers: 2 June 03 or 8 September 03
for Secondary School teachers: 3 June 03 or 9 September 03
Time: 9am to 4pm, with one hour lunch break in between

NAC-SPH GOLDEN POINT AWARD

This year the awards are being promoted on the theme that finishing a poem or short story in itself is a major achievement. Entry forms for this biennial writing competition in the four official languages are available from the National Arts Council from 3 Mar 2003 onwards. REGIONAL OUTLOOK: SOUTHEAST ASIA 2003-2004

Launched in 1992, Regional Outlook is an annual publication of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, published every January. THE BRITISH BOOK AWARDS

The British Book Awards, referred to as the Nibbies, are awarded annually and chosen by a group of over 150 representatives from all areas of the book trade. The British Book Awards are intended as a celebration of the book and the publishing industry, and are sponsored by companies such as KPMG, Exel Logistics, Ken Follett and The Bookseller.

THE RELC INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

The RELC Seminar is a major event in language education in the region. It is held annually and is attended mainly by scholars, lecturers, curriculum developers and educationists from the region as well as from other parts of the world. Good keynotes and a great place to meet those authors whose books you have been studying for applied linguistics, education etc.
